How important is a monthly Moon ritual? Short answer. Very.
When we connect with the Divine on a regular basis, when we think about our wishes and our intentions, and we take the time to see them as real, when we forgive and move on, when we bring to mind all we are grateful for, that is when our lives start to transform.
So do you have to do these rituals, take these moments, when the Moon is new or full? No of course not. However if you have ever worked properly with the Moon cycle, you will know that the energies really do change as the Moon moves through her monthly cycle.
Why does this happen? Who knows. I have no answer for that. What I do know, though, is that connecting with the Moon once a month really does make life better. Taking a moment to connect with the Divine, really does change lives.
So today I want to give you my 5 top tips for creating a monthly ritual.
1. Make the time – this is the hardest one for me sometimes! Set aside 20-30 minutes when you will be left to your own devices.
2. Create a sacred space – even if your flat is a total mess, as mine is sometimes, take a moment to clear yourself some room, to use a smudge stick or some Palo Santo wood to clear the air. Light a non-toxic (preferably bees wax) candle.
3. Put on some good instrumental music. My favourite is Mark Watson of angelearthmusic.com especially his Angels and Goddesses series. There is a very real reason to do this. Spiritual music raises your vibrations. That’s what we are aiming to do here. Ditto with the smudge stick in #2
4. Do some chanting. This is something I have been reminded of in the past 12 months and it’s amazing. You can chant whatever you want, but generally sacred Sanskrit sounds are recommended as again, they raise your vibration. I know some people will think I am talking mumbo jumbo and to those people I say, sit down and do numbers 1 – 2 on this list and then try changing with an open heart, aiming to open up your spirit, and I defy you not to feel it. Chants you might like to try are “Ommmmm”, “Om Shakti” or my personal favourite “Om Namo Narayani” which is Sanskrit for “I surrender to the Divine” or more specifically “I surrender to the Divine Mother”. Life-Chant your mantra out loud at least 3 times or more.
5. Put your hands together in the prayer position for a moment and just say “thank you” and bring to mind someone or something you are really grateful for.
And that is all you need to do. If you want to add intentions to your ceremony, visualisations can really help as can, of course (!!) writing lists. My free New Moon Wishing Guide is very handy if you’re not sure where to begin. If it’s Full Moon, doing a Full Moon forgiveness + gratitude ceremony also works wonders.
