In the past 10 years, I have gained a whopping 5 stone. I believe my body is out of whack as a result of working too hard and not looking after myself as much as I should. I was guided by the Universe to help others with their own weight struggles in order to help myself. So I started the Energetic Wellness Club – you can sign up for the free Facebook group here. It works with Moonology because guess what? The Moon is all about food! (Among other things!)

Had a very interesting experience today. As anyone who is following my Energetic Wellness Club posts will know, I’ve been ‘doing’ The Prime, which is a new book which guides readers through simple Ayurveda techniques to help you to reset your gut health and lose weight.

The writer is a western doctor turned Ayurveda doctor called Kulreet Chaudhary. Early in the book, Dr Chaudhary writes that one thing those of us who want to reset our microbiome need to start to pay attention to how food makes us feel.

So I did that today, with some quite surprising results. As it happens, I am on holidays at the moment, on the beautiful island of Malta in the Mediterranean Sea. We are staying in a hotel and this morning we had a classic hotel breakfast buffet.

(Vegetarians look away now! I have lots of vegan and vegetarian meals but I am basically an omnivore…)

I did have some of that cardboard-style bran as a nod to The Prime but then I decided to have some of the other ‘stuff’ there – some bacon, eggs (probably reconstituted!), two different styles of sausage, one of which was a classic rubbish processed sausage and one of which was pork. And other stuff along those lines. It wasn’t exactly the meal on the left but it was very similar.

After eating, I felt my energy drop. I felt low. I felt heavy. I sat at the table but I felt like going back to bed. I didn’t feel ill exactly but I felt extremely lackluster.

So that was that. I was quite surprised and I noted it, as per the instructions in The Prime. I dragged myself away to meet up with a lovely local pal, as arranged. In fact we went to find a local Black Madonna, but that’s another story!

So four hours later, it was lunch time. My lovely Maltese pal took us to an amazing place called the Grassy Hopper – self-proclaimed Malta’s finest vegan and vegetarian restaurant. Their slogan is “Eat Better – Feel Better”… funny about that!

Anyway the meal I had was called a Japanese Bowl – it had brown rice, 1/3 avocado, ‘breaded’ tofu, button mushrooms, homemade kimchi, sticky peanuts & seaweed, wilted kale and a Hoisin sauce, garnished with fresh carrot and radish and was vegan and GF… it’s the photo on the right, which was my very plate.

And OMG the difference was off the scale. After eating I felt like I was jumping out of my skin with energy and I am not even joking. I was so excited. I felt ALIVE! Joyous! I was talking to the woman who runs the place and got SO excited that I even ended up apologising for being over-enthusiastic (she said she didn’t mind!)

If ever I needed evidence that some food is good for me and some isn’t, this was it. I am not saying breakfast didn’t take good. It did. The sausages in particular were tasty. But they made me feel like rubbish. The Japanese Bowl was every single bit as delicious and more and made me feel AMAZING.

The idea is that one starts to realise how bad food affects us and starts to make wiser decisions.

I was truly amazed.
