At-a-glance guide to the Houses

One of the first steps to taking your knowledge of astrology beyond what you read in your horoscope is to understand the concept of the astrological Houses.

We all have 12 Houses in our chart. It’s enough just to know this fact, as a starting point. Below is a visual representation of what that actually looks like – you can see the number towards the centre of the circle (chart) and a short summary of what that House (eg the 1st or 2nd or 3rd House) is “about”.

So next time you hear that – for example – the New or Full Moon is taking place in X House, you can refer back to this.

Actually the New and Full Moon go around your chart in order, so if you have one in the 1st House this month, you will have next month’s New Moon in your 2nd House, the one after in your 3rd House and so on. Same of the Full Moon.

The only trap to watch out for here is when there are two lunations in the same sign!

To REALLY work with the chart wheel, you need to know your Rising Sign aka your Ascendant (find out here for free) and then put THAT sign at 9 o’clock on your chart. Working counter-clockwise, put the next sign on the next section. So for example if you have Aries on your 1st House, Taurus will be on you 2nd House, Gemini on your 3rd House.

The order of the signs is: Aries Taurus Gemini Cancer Leo Virgo Libra Scorpio Sagittarius Capricorn Aquarius Pisces
