I met a wonderful woman when I ran my recent workshop in Totnes. Her name is Samjhana and she is a Moon sister and also has created the most amazing thing; a menstrual cycle clock which also tells you which phase the Moon is in! More on that later.
We got to talking and Samjhana made a beautiful point. We were talking about women and body image – Samjhana also does Goddess portraiture here and helps women who don’t necessarily love to be photographed but need to be seen.
She said, of women’s many shapes and sizes, something along the lines that “women are like wild flowers out in nature. We are all different and we can’t expect every flower to look the same as one particular flower which has been deemed to be the ideal flower”. Great point, I thought!
And yet body image is still a super hot topic, even if deep down we know this to be true. And of course, nowadays, cosmetic surgery is becoming the norm. People get nipped and tucked in various places in their lunch hour.
The fact that all this is a hot topic, that people like Australia’s Mia Freedman are doing great work banging on about body image, is because the feminine is rising … ‘Beauty’ is facet of the human experience of being female.
I see it in astrological terms. Women are Venus and Venus is women, and beauty, among other things. Venus is She. As She rises, so will these questions.
Look at Alicia Keys and the whole “famous women wearing little to no no make up” ‘thing’. It’s a thing.
“What is beauty?” is a question in the air as the feminine rises. Not to mention in a year when the planet Venus does a rare-ish retrograde but this time back at the start of the zodiac, in Aries.
Whether we like it or not, being female includes the concept of beauty, one way or another. As does Goddess. Or She. The maiden is the beautiful one. Then you have the mother, and then the much-maligned crone.
The main thing is not to judge other women for their choices. Or it it? Are we here to teach others what we think is right, in our opinion?
The Goddess – Venus – She – Lakshmi is definitely rising – I probably don’t need to tell you! The women’s marches last week were a part of it, as you surely know.
And Goddess is at least part Venus (and part Moon). Venus is part Goddess, yes? And Venus is beauty, and also vanity.
